The King of Kings met the President for Life when he traveled to Haiti in 1966, becoming the only head of state to visit Haiti during the presidency of Francois Duvalier. President Duvalier, being a proponent of the black nationalist platform, was a supporter of the Pan-African model of excellence, and welcomed the Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I with open arms.

During his own rule, Duvalier became almost as popular as Emperor Selassie through his forceful might held by the use of fear and murder. His family became ridiculously wealthy through the country's

coffers, as Duvalier explicitly appropriated state money, much of which came from aid funds given by other countries, into his personal accounts, all this while the population was impoverished. Because of his notorious reputation, Duvalier was forced to be under heavy guard consisting of 600 officers in the palace guard, 350 soldiers in the Dessalines Barracks next door, thousands of militiamen and the fearsome Tontons Macoutes.

HAITI RECEIVES EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE 

In 1966, Haiti welcomed one of the most symbolic black figures of the world. For the occasion, François Duvalier (left) had public settings redecorated in Port-au-Prince to match the national colours of Ethiopia. While Selassie was met with much euphoria in the capital, some historians maintain that François Duvalier attempted to put forward a new foreign policy agenda with such visit. Aware of his illness and of his regime’s unpopularity with foreign leaders, Duvalier was eager to accord diplomatic recognition to newly independent African states and to establish cordial ties with leaders of the continent in hopes of proving some consistency with his Noirist ideology and to demonstrate that his administration did possess some alignment beyond its professed anti-communism.

It is to help students think through the wise sayings, allegories, riddles, parables, and stories, and to help students apply them to their life. This course is to increase thinking, logic and reasoning abilities, to support character development and decision making.  

The Book of Proverbs is in the form of parables, stories, riddles, and wise sayings. They offer a unique perspective on making decisions, living life, and how to be successful. 

 

By studying the Book of Proverbs, particularly for men, there is an opportunity to get insight not only from a king, not only from a Black king or ruler, but also from the wisest man that lived and whose knowledge has continued on for thousands of years.

 

By reading the Book of Proverbs the reader is offered the possibility of duplicating the best results of a King. The reader will increase in knowledge wisdom and understanding, make better decisions, learn how to earn more money, have better relationships with the opposite sex as well as with people in general, and learn to be successful in living a prosperous and joyful life.

The Five Year Economic Plan of Ethiopia 1957-1961; HIM Haile Selassie I Selected Speeches

Emperor Haile Selassie I and Nation of Islam leader, Elijah Muhammad, were in agreement on using the Five Year Economic Plan to develop and grow their nation systematically.

"It is evident that prior to the First Five-Year Economic Plan Ethiopia was engaged in the execution of numerous development undertakings. Long term projects were carried out in the respective fields of telecommunications, public health, road transport, air lines and other similar phases of development. Satisfactory results have likewise been attained. Nevertheless, a plan, embracing Ethiopia's socio-economic growth, was prepared from a wide and detailed study of such undertakings as were previously carried out through experience and also for the rational utilization of labor and capital. The advantages of a plan are by no means limited to the government; a plan shows the respective goals of our country in each sector, the required funds and their sources, as well as the success and failures of each year's endeavor."

Mr. Muhammad mentioned the five year plans of Pakistan and Russia on two occasions in his timeless book Message to the Black Man in America.

The Five Year Economic Plan is "tried and true"! It has been studied, tested, and proven to work for the development of nations.

The Story of 40 Armenian Orphans, Emperor Haile Selassie I, and the First National Orchestra

 Armenians had traded with Ethiopia from as early as the first century AD.^[2]

Besides the obvious religious affiliation, there is also the story of the "Arba Lijoch" children coming to Ethiopia after the Armenian genocide. Arba Lijoch were a group of 40 Armenian orphans who had escaped from the atrocities in Ottoman Empire, and were afterwards adopted by Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, then Crown Prince Ras Tafari. He had met them while visiting the Armenian monastery in Jerusalem. They impressed him so much that he obtained permission from the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem to adopt and bring them to Ethiopia, where he then arranged for them to receive musical instruction.^[3]

The Arba Lijoch arrived in Addis Ababa in 1924, and along with their bandleader Kevork Nalbandian became the first official orchestra of the nation. Nalbandian also composed the music for Ethiopia Hoy (words by Yoftehé Negusé), which was the Imperial National Anthem from 1930 to 1974.^[4]

Armenians have a much older presence in Ethiopia. Indeed, one of the first recorded diplomatic missions to Europe from Ethiopia was led by Matthew the Armenian who traveled to Portugal and Rome at the request of the Dowager Empress Eleni of Ethiopia to appeal for aid against Islamic incursions into Ethiopia in the 16th Century.

The population peaked in shortly before the Italian invasion in 1935 at around 2,800. By the fall of the Ethiopian monarchy in 1974, it was around 2,000, after which the numbers fell precipitously.^[5][6]

in 1924 the ruler of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, was visiting Jerusalem on a diplomatic trip, and fell in love with a brass band of Armenian children. Upon learning that they were orphans of the Armenian Genocide, he decided to adopt them.

He called this group of 40 Armenians, Arba Lijoch (“forty children” in Amharic, the official language in Ethiopia) and formed the royal imperial brass band of Ethiopia. The group was so successful that it eventually lead to a music renaissance and created a new music genre called Ethio-jazz.

While the Armenian orphans led the wave of musical modernization in Ethiopia, the Armenian community in Addis Ababa also governed the pharmaceutical and medical institutions at the turn of the 20th century. By the year 1935, the Armenian population in Addis Ababa was roughly estimated at a little over 2,000.

Today, there are about 100 Armenians remaining in Addis Ababa who stay interconnected largely in thanks to the Kevorkoff Armenian school and the St. George Apostolic Church, which continues to operate, thanks to Simon Hagopian, the son of one of the 40 orphans, and Archdeacon Vartkes Nalbandian

For this reason they stressed a well-balanced book collection from the very beginning of the establishing of the institution. Excluded from this study is the library of the Hood Theological Seminary located on the second floor of the Carnegie Library building and is now under the direction of Mrs. Mable Graves. Lunar Visitor Radio

The Lunar Visitor periodical was first published in 1852 in San Francisco, California by a formerly enslaved preacher, John Jamison (J.J.) Moore of the AME Zion Church (denomination)- church home of Harriet Tubman, the Paul Robeson Family,  Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, and other abolitionists. 

        In 2019, the Lunar Visitor brand was updated and modernized by the Moore family. In 2022 the family launched Lunar Visitor Radio during Black History via Live365.com. The work of Bishop Moore, Rev. Dr. Isaiah Moore, and their family continues on to modern-day. 
 
When Bishop Moor published the Lunar Visitor in San Francisco in the 1850s, he gave it the mission statement: “To be devoted to the Moral, Intellectual, and Social Improvement of the Colored Race”, Today we just say "the race". It is through this mission that we self-determine to push ourselves and our families forward generationally, thinking 7 generations ahead.

Ancient Abyssinia and the History of the Ethiopian Empire

 

The Last Director of the Ethiopian Research Council Founded by Malaku Bayen 1934

The last Director/Coordinator of the Ethiopian Research Council was internationally known scholar/ethnomusicologist Professor Ashenafi Kebede, who also served as Director of the Center for African American Culture and Professor of Ethnomusicology, African & Afro-American Studies, both at The Florida State University. 

Though renowned in Ethiopia as the Founder/Director of the National (Yared) School of Music, which has graduated practically all the living performing musical and music educators of Ethiopia, Prof. Kebede was internationally known as an ethnomusicological scholar, the first person to receive the Ph.D. degree in his field from the famed Wesleyan University (1971, Middletown, Connecticut); the first African to conduct the famous Hungarian State Orchestra (1967). 

Professor Kebede also served in several prestigious positions at the international level serving as the UNESCO Expert to The Government of Sudan where he founded the Sudanese Institute of Music, Dance and Drama, and Chairman of the Teheran International Conference on Music Education in the Countries of Africa & Asia organized by UNESCO

THE LION AND THE CONDOR: The Untold Story of Col. John C. Robinson and the Crippling of Ethiopia

 

Col. John C. Robinson was the first African American aviator licensed in the US, the first African American aviation instructor in America. He taught the first African American women pilots in America and the first Ethiopia women pilots. It was his idea that gave birth to the famous Tuskegee Airmen of WWII fame. Known as the "Brown Condor of Ethiopia," he became an international hero and legend fighting against Mussolini's fascism in Ethiopia in 1935.
